20th September
Last Tuesday 20th September took place the workshop titled “Energy digitalization and sustainability of the seafood supply chain” in Vigo organized by our partner EnergyLab with interventions of researchers from University of Santiago de Compostela and ANFACO-CECOPESCA, also partners of Neptunus. It was an hybrid event, face-to-face and online.
The workshop delved into the importance of cold chain, refrigeration process, and novel production technologies —based on industry 4.0 (I4.0)— within the seafood supply chain, remarking the challenges to be addressed in coming years.
Thus, the fishing fleet and processing facilities shall update their current equipment aiming for energy efficiency, economic savings, and environmental impact reduction through the introduction of novel technologies based on I4.0 such as machine learning, big data, internet of things, etc. Likewise, it was presented the concept of blue carbon accounting as an indicator for the environmental impact reporting of seafood from a life cycle perspective.
